Search function not finding clips in Premiere Pro

I'm finding that I cannot reliably find clips in the search bars in Premiere Pro.  I thought this was because I was a newbie, but then I found this post from December 15, 2018 ("Premiere Pro CC 2019 13.0.2 search/find/bin filter issues") by a user named jblaz, who wrote:

"I started having issues with the project panel bin filter search not showing clips that I knew were in the project - I'd search for a word in the name of a clip and no clips would show up."

That is the same problem I seem to be having.  Case in point:

I created a video clip that I know is entitled comedian1_4.avi.  I know this because that's what I see as the file name when I export it.  It even shows that it's in the comedian1 folder.

But when I search for the word "comedian" in the bin folders, there are no hits.  Nor do I see the comedian1_4.avi file in any bin nor after searching in the media browser.

The tutorials I watched suggested that the clips I created would appear in the bin from which I was working, but that is not happening for me.  Nor can I find the clips anywhere else.  They eventually seem to pop up without rhyme or reason.  I'm wondering if it's a filter issue of some kind.

There's always the possibility that I'm "missing something" as a newbie, but I have watched dozens of videos and I am still puzzled by the apparent inability of the search function to reliably find the clips that I'm creating.

I tried exporting a clip with an arbitrary file name, "xerxes."

Afterwords, I searched for "xerxes" in the bin where I created it.  All that showed up was an icon for an empty bin, called "bin," not "xerxes."

I did find out that if you really want to see the clip you're exporting, you can always download it to your own computer, by clicking on the file name in the export options and saving.  That may not be where you need the clip, but at least you know where it is 😉
