Selection tools stopped working in one of my files

Selection tools have suddenly stopped working, whether I invoke from an icon or a keyboard shortcut.  The tools seem to work normally in other files.  Any suggestions?

    Your tracks are locked on the timeline, there is nothing to select if the tracks are locked.

    I was happily editing a file, and then my selection tools stopped working.  The same issue exists in my recently saved copy of the file.  It does not exist in other files.

    Hi richardhumetalbott,

    Thanks for the screenshot. Create a new project, import the old project file into new project & test.

    Something worked.  You may have fixed my problem, but it would be good to know how to avoid it in future.  Thanks for any additional tips.
