Question

Single line of text in captions

I am importing an.SRT file into premier and at times the text appears in 2 lines. How do I adjust the text to appear in a single line - I need to edit multiple caption files that are quite long so would like to avoid opening the caption editor and doing it manually?

Are these duplicated lines, as happens often with exports from Youtube created captions? Or just regular 2 line captions? I assume the latter, since they are not all 2 line.

One problem is if the 2 line to single line results in a too long caption. So you might need to add a caption, rather than combine the lines.

In any event, one option is to open in a third party app like SubtitleEdit, select all the captions, and in the edit window, click the "Unbreak" button. Voila!

You can also use it via Tools -> Fix Common Errors to suggest which lines need to be broken, or, before unbreaking, apply the unbreak only to lines that are too short. You can determine the minimum and maximum line lengths it uses.
