Question

SLog3 footage coming in with LUT applied, unable to change or remove.

I recently update to Premiere 2022, and now I am unable to grade ir color correct any footage I import from my Sony FX6. The clips are SLog3. When I import them into Premiere, they have the appearance of a LUT already having been applied (I assume rec709, as that it about hwo I expect them to look). However, if I click on any clip, and interpret footage, Premiere claims no LUT has been applied. Oddly enough, if I open any of the source clips, they appear correct (flat, with no color grading applied). But if I bring them into the timeline, they become just like all the others, with the colors changed. Source tab for any clips in the effects window is completely empty, so there is no LUT there to remove.

Especially frustrating is that I CANNOT change/grade/color correct any of the clips beyond how Premiere imports them. Not adjustments in Lumetri have any impact. I don't feel like I am doing anything incorrectly here, but perhaps there is something I am overlooking about how this works in the new version? I did everything exactly the same in the previous version, and had zero issues like this.

I'm having the same problem all of a sudden.  I change the setting in Clip:Modify:interpret footage:colourspace:REC709.    But now I can't use Lumetri colour to grade it - as soon as I try it adds another random LUT that I haven't added.

Is the sequence set to Rec.709?

I've used a bunch of clips from different users and my own material. Standard Rec.709 through HLG and PQ clips. And if both the clip and the sequence are Rec.709, it's works as expected.

I'm curious about the "random LUT" ... so when you touch any control, what happens to the image?

Up unntil this morning everything was working fine.  I added an SLOG-3 clip onto an existing timeline, and it appeared on the timeline looking as if a LUT had been applied.  But in Lumetri Colour it was reading that there was no LUT applied.  So I went into Media - clip-

I'm having a somewhat related issue. I upgraded to 2022 and when I opened a project (it was converted) my color corrected sequence had my Lumetri effects parameters missing but only on some shots. I had effects stacked and renamed, but when I opened them, the parameters are reset to default. Also, any clips with CanonS300 LUT applied had those properties disappear. You cannot select CanonS300 in the pulldown any more. When I tried to import it as a new one, it did nothing to the shot. Now, when I remove the Lumetri effect, the shot looks corrected and no longer LogC. Strange. Thankfully, this project was already delivered, I just needed to add new clips to the project.

Just a bit of advice ... I do not recommed ever simply opening a project from one version in the next version. If there are any differences between the two in color management or data management, this will cause issues.

It is better to create a new project in the new version, and then in the MediaBrowser panel, select the old project file and import the assets of that project into the new one. This also ensures you have the old project unsullied and available for use if the new version has problems.

Hi Neil. I didn't know it wanted to create a new version until after I launched the project. When it did, it said it needed to update the project and leave the old version alone. I accepted and that is when I discovered the LUTs are not correct and my Lumetri Color Effects are set back to default. -- I just now tried to import the project to see if that helped my color corrected sequences and it did not. The issue persists. Not only can I no longer find the CanonS300 LUT in the pulldown (it came with Premiere...I did not manually move any files anywhere on the sytem drive), but only SOME of my Lumetri effects are reset back to default parameters. I think this is a bug. I can either wait for Premiere to update this issue...or roll back to Premiere 2021. However. I've been working for the last two weeks on projects which had no color corrected timelines and I'm not sure about going back a version. I may be stuck with 2022 and have to re-correct the shots that blew up. I also will no longer be using the CanonS300 LUT any more. I fill find an alternative.

@Hecubus114

Taking another look at your system specs, try updating to at least Big Sur 11.4.

It wasn't until 11.4 that I felt that things were stable on the Adobe side.

Also, try downloading the sample S-Log3 clips of singer/songwriter Gorm Bloch posted by Claus Anderson for a base test:  https://filmplusgear.com/sony-fx6-test-files-for-download/

Both the wide shot and close-up of Gorm performing behave as expected in both Premiere Pro 15.4.1 and Premiere Pro 22.0 on my 2017 iMac Pro (macOS Big Sur 11.5, 3 Ghz 10-Core Intel Xeon W, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM, Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB graphics).

I am going to attempt to update my OS tonight, after I do a backup. We'll see if it matters at all in regards to this issue.

Just as an update, I reverted back to Premiere 2021, and the issue is gone. So definitely seems to be a bug in 2022.

Is this footage from a Sony AsIII?

In Premiere Pro v22 this footage may appear blown out due to metadata in the footage.  If that's the case, you'll probably want to override the color space to Rec. 709 in Modify > Interpret Footage.

Hello - Just discovered I also had this issue today and what you suggested does work, i have to override the colorspace to Rec 709 to view my sLog footage (that does seem strange).

I am curious if there is a way to do this in bulk, as I'd rather not do this for the 300 clips I have to modify...

TIA.

Is the Input LUT set to None under the Color Mangement option in the Modify Clip dialog box?

Clip > Modify > Interpret Footege...

@Hecubus114

In addition, in the same space, is the color space in use Rec 709 for the file?

Im experience the same issue. I already noticed this problem in Premire Pro Beta 1 Month ago, so I searched everywhere to find a solution but it seems that Premiere has a Bug here. I also have the problem with exporting a video. (With every other Codex like mp4) The exported Video look completly different than the footage in the timeline. (Much brighter and with less saturatuion). I hope Adobe fix this problem asap!!

I'm having similar problems, I was doing an edit with SLog2 footage from FS7, FS5 and a6600. Updated Premiere to 2022 and now the FS5 footage looks like it has been graded or a LUT applied when added to a timeline. Screenshot is of the footage in Source window and program window. It also appears to be an issue in Media Encoder 2022 as well, the FS% SLog2 footage looks normal in browser but when you import it the colours change on it.

This seems to be the exact same issue I am experiencing.

Im in the middle of the same issues digging for an answer.. its soa annoying because ill fix my timeline footage to look like the original clip then go to export and its brighter and the colours are different like there's another lut on it.

This sounds annoying, but also a different problem than I am experiencing. My clips have LUTs applied immediately upon importing, and I am unable to make any color changes to them.
