Slow Rendering - Macbook Pro M1 Max Chip

I am new to really the whole creative world. I bought the best Mac and undertstand very basic concepts with Adobe Premiere Pro. I am watching a course on how to use Premeire to its full potential but when I render a chip for smooth playback, it takes over a minute. Then when it is finally done, if I make one change or even delete the edit I made it goes back to playing back slow. Any suggestions or an update or honestly I am not sure just kinda frustrating.

In general, an M1 Max should perform better than many computers, and faster than most laptops. I have an M1 Pro, and it’s more than good enough for my needs.

Do you mean rendering in the middle of editing (Sequence > Render Effects In to Out, or pressing the Return key), or render after you’re done editing (File > Export > Media)? Or do you mean another type of rendering?

When you are done editing, whether a minute is a short time or a long time depends on a lot of things.

  • How many minutes is the sequence in the Timeline?
  • Do you know what format type you are editing? (H.264, ProRes, Blackmagic raw, drone footage…?)
  • What is the resolution of the video you are editing? (1080p, 4Km 8K…?)
  • How many tracks are stacked in the sequence, and do they use many effects?

I'll make an edit (in this case it was adding a blur keyframe), then the red bar will appear up above the sequence. From there I press the return key to render it. After it's done rendering and I don't like it and want to change it back I will have to render it again and it takes another minute. Just seems like a lot of rendering.
Appreciate it

I “only” have an M1 Pro, but I just applied a couple of different blurs to an H.264 4K clip and the rendering bar is still yellow and plays back smoothly. My edits might be simpler but I rarely need to render while editing, especially on the M1 Pro. I just play it back with the spacebar.

To get a better answer to your question, we would need to hear more details about your sequence, like the questions I asked in my previous reply. For example, the render bar going red so soon might be understandable if the clip was a less well supported codec, if it was 8K, if there were multiple tracks stacked, etc. But right now we have not heard enough about your sequence to identify a reason why it’s red and slow.

Which blur effect was it? Are other effects already applied to the same clip?
