Question

.srt captioning file

Hello,

As a requirement for my job, I'm being asked to export the .srt sidecar file from premiere and send it to another editor. That said – this past week the editor asked if I had the ability to move the caption placement within the video to the top of the screen to make sure it never covered Lower Thirds and re-export the .srt file to mirror those changes. Unfortunately, the .srt file didn't save the location of the captions that I moved within the video. Does anyone know a work around for the .srt file to save the placement of captions so they don't cover specific elements on screen such as lower thirds, etc.?

Any advice would be helpful.

SRT files only contain the text and the timing - see

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubRip

That means there is no way to specify the position of the captions in that file. It is entirely up to the app which imports the captions where to place them.

Is there a way to get a .cap file to hold onto that position data?
