Question

Stability is at the lowest right now.

I don't know why, but over the past 2 years, Premiere Pro has been getting worse and worse at stability.

Now, every time I try to open a project, even with all resources on an SSD, Premiere is still laggy and, most of the time, would not even load a program or source monitor. Playback , even in HD, is impossible; now, every time I want to work on something, I have to delete all cache files just to get 30 minutes of less laggy workflow and then restart the whole process.

Then there are times when the media encoder or in-program premiere rendering would just stop for no reason and get stuck at a random point during the exporting and just stay there, with no warnings, no reports.

It cost a lot for your subscription. Fix the program.

My pc is i9 12900K with 3080 so don't say my pc is not enough.

Sorry to potentially sound pedantic, but we need to confirm in order to pursue the issue further:

When you're in Edit mode (not Import mode), and invoke File --> Import, PPro doesn't even display the OS file browser dialog, before hanging/crashing?

I reiterate, there are no specific files. I don't even get to that point. I select File>Import and BANG - it freezes! What I would like to be importing are PNG, jpeg, AI files...

Hi Leslie,

Tonight it froze about 10 times just using file>import

Confirming: Every time you import [some specific files], you can reliably get PPro to hang? If so, we'd like to see those files.

I agree with Thieu! I believe Premiere is very unstable. Tonight it froze about 10 times just using file>import and when using motion graphics. I wasted so much time rebooting.

Not just effects. Just rendering an original video footage (yellow -> green on timeline) for preview because it was too laggy. You can see example in this video: Desktop 2024.02.27 - 14.35.43.01.mp4

Hi there,

Thanks for trying to roll back the driver. I'm sorry it didn't work. You can't render effects? That's weird. Which codec are you using for video previews? The ask to try out Software Rendering was for a test. Can you try that test? What happens? Have you tried an HEVC export? Let me know. Another test you can try is to use standard resolutions, like 1920 x 1080. Do things work normally, then? Sorry for the negative experience. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of your issues.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello @Kevin-Monahan

Thank you for the feedback.

I would also like to add to this.

First, I was at NVIDIA driver version 545.92 when I experienced the issues like I have informed you. At first I thought that it was a driver problem and I did try to update to driver version 551.62. The performance was worsen by a lot. There are times I could not even open the project, then I rolled back to 545.92 and the issues still present.

Second, even before exporting to H.264, I even tried in-timeline workare render for preview and it still not rendering. There are times I was able to render parts of the timeline, but previews are still not consistent, there are still lags and stuttering playbacks.

Third, I appreciate the idea of using software rendering, but then it's no meaning in investing my rig then software rendering.

Finally, I know you guys are trying your best and I love Premiere Pro, but years ago Premiere are very stable and smooth. Unfortunately it was not the case recently. 2 years ago when I decided to subscribe to Adobe, I was hoping for better experiences but honestly I have not. I hope you guys can deliver one separate certified stable, smooth and reliable version of Premiere.

Hey there, @Thieu Minh. Hi @Bruce Bullis.

Thanks for the info and your patience on this. We had a report from the assisted support team that the latest NVIDIA driver is causing a lot of trouble. What you might try doing is one of the following:

  • Roll back the NVIDIA driver
  • Export in HEVC, not H.264
  • Export using Software Encoding

Let us know if the earlier driver works. If not, see if one of the other options might work for you. Please let us know what's going on. I hope the community can help you. Sorry for the hassle!

Thanks,
Kevin

Cool.

I see the problem you're hitting in the video, but have been (so far) unable to generate any issues, here. I've asked Support to provide some guidance...
