'Standard' Audio track destroys stereo mix

Is there a reason/Has anyone else noticed that when dropping a supplid wav into a  'Standard' audio track it removes virtually all the width from a stero file (music suplied by a sound studio) However when I change the audio track to 'Adaptive' all of a sudden the 'width' is back!

I think that's "by design". Standard tends to start panned center. Or something like that. I've had this explained to me before but it's been awhile.

It's one of those things like understanding why many audio pros do not want stereo tracks, they want dual mono ...

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
