Sub clip IO setting not registering

I set IO points in a clip in my timeline then Control draged it to my Proj Panel where it created the subset icon I just created, with IO points.
But in in the subclip /edit window the IO markders are not present.
No matter how many different ways I approach this issue the result is the same: IO markers do  not show up in the sub clip.
I've ever tried enter them using the sub clip editor and the effort was a total bust; I need to work with entering time codes

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the frustration.

I see the issue. You are trying to drag a Subclip derived from In and Out Marks on a clip in a Timeline. I don't think that is supported behavior. It is going to grab the entire clip instance, as mentioned in the user guide (see "Create a subclip from a Timeline panel" in Create and Play Clips).

I can understand the confusion as the action is different relating to how you create your Subclip. If you create a Subclip from the Project panel, then yes, it does respect your In and Out Marks after you drag it into the Project panel from the Source Monitor. If you create a Subclip from In and Out Marks in the Timeline, it disregards In and Out Marks respecting the instance of the clip that is displayed on the Timeline instead.

You can work around this behavior if you need to.

One way you can work around your issue is to create a new clip instance by first applying Add Edits where your In and Out marks are located on the Timleline. First, navigate to those marks (Shift + I or Shift + O or snap the playhead to them) and then press the Ctrl (WIN) or CMD (macOS) + K shortcut for Add Edits.

Some like to use the Razor tool for creating Add Edits. Do this by simply clicking where the In and Out marks are with the tool.

You can then drag this clip instance to the Project panel via Ctrl/CMD dragging, which will give you your intended Subclip.

If you don't like the aftermath of Add Edits, you can clean them off by right clicking (or Ctrl/CMD clicking) on the Add Edit and choose > Join Through Edits. This restores the clip as it was formerly in the Timeline.

If you saw different behavior on a video tutorial, do you have any links I can check? .

Thanks for that detailed response.

It appears that if I ctrl drag a clip from the timeline into the Project panel I can then set IO points; in that clip on the timeline, and then use the Creat a sub option. That will save the IO points.

I was setting the IO points THEN using the make Sub option to create a Sub. It appears that I must Ctrl drag it to the Proj Manal first.

Is this a "bug" issue? I've watched several YouTube videos on the subject of Sub Clips and read up on the feature in ref books. I've also had my IT service "tune up" my OS but Ctrl U is still not working for me the way it is supposed to.

had no better luck with Sup Sequrnce.

Thanks for that work around, I'll give it a try, but why isn't the Create a Sub Clip optiong working the way it does in all the Youtube videos I've watched since this started.

I've shut down and rebooted but it's still not working. I'm going to contact my IP service for a system tunup to see if it's an OS issue.

Make sure no clips are selected and Choose Sequence>Make Subsequence.

This is a subsequence, as opposed to a subclip but you can use it in the same way and if you click this button, it will allow you to drag the subsequence onto your main sequence as clips instead of a nest.
