Suddenly, Resizing Text Box Resizes Text

All of a sudden, this morning, whenever I try resizing a text box the text resizes as well. I can't make the text boxes wider or taller -- pulling on any side scales the box and its contents. How do I make it stop?

It depends on how the text was created:

If you clicked once and started typing with the Type tool, then grabbing the sides of the box will scale.

If you clicked and dragged to make the box, then grabbing the sides will scale the box area.

I cannot find a feature request/Idea for being able to convert point text to paragraph and vice versa. Is there one?

Apparently there isn't one, in some ways, Premiere is 20 years backwards with basic features. It's just weird.

It's already implemented, Ppro team should add the command to the right-click menu in the Program monitor:

I just found out there's a difference between whether you click and drag the corner squares of the blue text selection (which changes the size) or the side squares (which will change the area that contains the text).

Ah - but how do we make the text box resize evenly each side while remaining centred, like we can (by holding ctrl I think) in After Effects? Or is that not possible - does anyone here know?

Don't think so - as I said in my last post, the behaviour depends on how you created the box. I don't think you can change it after the fact.

Ok, thanks for letting me know! I'm working around it by redrawing a new text layer, typing in there, and then deleting the original.

This is really a great answer. I dont really understand for such basic thing is not documented and just to add simple text you waste a lot of time. Thanks for your great answer.
1 question though, sometimes doing 2nd way dragged to make the box, text is not displayed. Do you know why?

Try to make the box larger and see if the text appears. It could be that the font size is too large, or you set a large value for "Baseline Shift" or "Leading"...

Where and how are you trying to resize the text box? Are you in the Essential Graphics panel or are you using the (now legacy) Title tool? What version of Premiere Pro?

I use the Essential Graphics panel but not to resize the text box. I use the selection tool for that.

Update: I've since found it only does this in some files so it must be a setting or something that I've inadvertently toggled and don't know how to undo.

I personally don't draw text boxes in Premiere.  I just click on the page with the type tool and type.

Perhaps you can copy the text and delete the text and box and re-paste the text without a box.
