All of a sudden, this morning, whenever I try resizing a text box the text resizes as well. I can't make the text boxes wider or taller -- pulling on any side scales the box and its contents. How do I make it stop?
It depends on how the text was created:
If you clicked once and started typing with the Type tool, then grabbing the sides of the box will scale.
If you clicked and dragged to make the box, then grabbing the sides will scale the box area.

I personally don't draw text boxes in Premiere. I just click on the page with the type tool and type.
Perhaps you can copy the text and delete the text and box and re-paste the text without a box.

Where and how are you trying to resize the text box? Are you in the Essential Graphics panel or are you using the (now legacy) Title tool? What version of Premiere Pro?

I use the Essential Graphics panel but not to resize the text box. I use the selection tool for that.
Update: I've since found it only does this in some files so it must be a setting or something that I've inadvertently toggled and don't know how to undo.

I thought that might be it because that's how it works elsewhere. Knowing that, I can't imagine I would have just clicked when I intentionally click and drag each time to make them boxes. Ah well, that must have been it.

Hi...I found this thread when trying to figure out how to resize a text box because I changed my mind and want to add more text. I can add text, but the box doesn't expand, and the extra text just disappears down the bottom of the box. Is there seriously no way to resize a text box that you created by just clicking and typing?

This is really a great answer. I dont really understand for such basic thing is not documented and just to add simple text you waste a lot of time. Thanks for your great answer.
1 question though, sometimes doing 2nd way dragged to make the box, text is not displayed. Do you know why?

Try to make the box larger and see if the text appears. It could be that the font size is too large, or you set a large value for "Baseline Shift" or "Leading"...

Don't think so - as I said in my last post, the behaviour depends on how you created the box. I don't think you can change it after the fact.

Ok, thanks for letting me know! I'm working around it by redrawing a new text layer, typing in there, and then deleting the original.

Ah - but how do we make the text box resize evenly each side while remaining centred, like we can (by holding ctrl I think) in After Effects? Or is that not possible - does anyone here know?

I just found out there's a difference between whether you click and drag the corner squares of the blue text selection (which changes the size) or the side squares (which will change the area that contains the text).

I cannot find a feature request/Idea for being able to convert point text to paragraph and vice versa. Is there one?

Apparently there isn't one, in some ways, Premiere is 20 years backwards with basic features. It's just weird.

It's already implemented, Ppro team should add the command to the right-click menu in the Program monitor:

Thank god for that! I didn't try to click that particular wrench icon (as there are multiple ones) and couldn't find mention of this basic feature anywhere. Thank you for letting me know - this really shouldn't be hidden like that, as it's much more important than many other options that are displayed right away. But I keep forgetting they don't have an UX designer on team.

@ali Jaber,
Thanks for pointing this out in the Release version!
I was still tracking this in the Beta, and I see now it was introduced to the Release version with 24.2.0 or 24.2.1. This is, indeed, a very helpful option.
When I said earlier in this thread that I couldn't find a feature request, I eventually did. But I found only this one with a few votes and missed the next one with hundreds - that went back to the UserVoice system.

Hey @Stan Jones , no worry, I knew that your post is old and before introducing that option, I was just poiniting @lefiath to that new feature (which is really hidden for some mysterious reason).
