Question

The fastest proxy for cheap pc?

I have a fairly cheap pc:
Intel i7 3770
16gb ram
240gb ssd and 2 hard drives of 1tb
I don't name the video card, because premiere doesn't care (Nvidia 1050ti). Premeire uses the processor 10 times more than the video card. It is ultra demonstrated when one uses Davinci Resolve (with that program my pc looks like a NASA computer)

I am looking for the best configuration to create proxies that work super fast on my pc. I have already tried with the standard proxy and it is very good, but when I start editing and putting some effects, it starts to freeze when previewing.
In the menu I find two options (h.264 and Quicktime). Quicktime takes up a lot of space, is there a way to lose weight to proxy files?

You don't say what your source footage is.

I would suggest Cineform proxies under the Quicktime choice. Don't bother with h.264, that's likely whats causing the slow performance, well that and a clearly older computer. Keep the files all on the SSD for editing. You can tick down the quality of the Cineform proxies one notch and I use 720p proxies for 4k uhd footage, and they work really well. Your Nvidia card will be used in creating them if your footage is > 720p.
