The New MacBook Pro 16 and the BlackMagic Pro EGPU

Last week I got one of the new MacBook Pro 16s and plugged it into my (from Apple Store) EGPU BlackMagic Pro. After about 10 minutes, I realized something was very wrong. Just things like typing messages like this had a delay. That is, I type ABCD as fast as I can and it does not show up on the screen for at least a 100ms or so which is quite noticable.  No issue when running the monitor directly off of the new MacBook w/o the EGPU.

I also did some testing with Premiere Pro and so far, though painful to test, the EGPU was maybe 10% faster at my workload then the native computer (on my previous MacBook with similar specs but less of a built in graphics card), it was about 300% faster on the EGPU.

Anyone else have that new MacBook and the BM EGPU Pro?

That is odd that the typing was so slow. Try opening Activity Monitor and see if there is a process using more CPU than expected, slowing down everything else.

The graphics hardware on the new 16" (which I do not have) is much more powerful than the top of the line GPU in the old 15"; that might partly explain why the eGPU provides less of a boost with the new model.

I don't know if this will provide any insight, but today a Mac benchmaring website published some tests using the new 16" MacBook Pro and eGPUs, though not the BlackMagic Pro:
