Timeline Blue Line - When line moves, clips aren't being highlighted along with it

Every time I try to move the blue line over a clip, the clip won't automatically highlight. I have to go into the clip and click in the timeline every time and then select the clip.  Is there a way to automate this process as it takes a lot of time to continue to do this.
