Timeline moving rapidly

Whilst I have edited several videos, I would still consider myself a total newb so would be grateful for any help. Having imported the footage into the timeline, I try to scan through it slowly but the footage moves incredibly quickly no matter how slowly I move the mouse. The video plays back fine it's merely when I'm trying to scan through the footage. This had not been a problem for any previous video I had edited but I think my computer automatically downloaded an update recently which is when the problem began. Initially I thought it was an issue with the mouse settings but have looked at these and all seem fine. I can't find anyone else having experienced this problem which is somewhat concerning.

    This issue of the timline head scrubbing too quickly has been happening for years. Drives me nuts that I just want to scrub the timeline 5 seconds ahead and it jumps 5 minutes.  I'm sure this hasnt been resolved yet but maybe someone has a solution?

      Hi John,

      I read your message and I do agree with you. There should be an easier way to slow down the scrolling speed. I found that when I gently press against the right side of the Timeline, the scrolling speed is more manageable. If you lean into pressing against the right side, the speed becomes too fast to manage. You might try Preferences > Timeline and change the scroll wheel to horizontal to scroll manually, which is usually what I like to do. Let me know if any of these tips work for you.       Thanks for your advice Kevin but sadly it hasn't worked. I don't think I explained it very well so I'll try again. Having imported a video into the timeline, I push the bottom sliders together so I see just a small piece of the footage. I then scan through the footage by grabbing the playhead with my mouse and pushing it to the right. This used to allow me to scan through the entire video footage very slowly but it now moves so fast I can hardly control it as it zooms through. I hope this makes sense and can come up with a solution

      Hi John,

      Thanks for the note. Yes, I did understand your issue and I agree that it is very frustrating. I don't know of a way to slow down the speed of the scrolling of clips when you are zoomed in to the Timeline at that level. It almost seems like an oversight. I think your issue falls into the category of a feature request. I can move your post into the feature request forum called, "Ideas," if you like. Let me know if you'd like to proceed with that.
