Trying to extend duration of shapes in Premiere Pro

Question

Hi all,

it's a Monday and my brain is not working 100%, so bear with me if this is a simple thing that I'm missing. I'm trying to highlight a section of a clip I'm working on with some simple rectangles drawn using the rectangle tool. I just want to keyframe their opacity so they fade in and fade out at the end of the clip, however everytime I draw the rectangles, their duration seems to be capped at 5 seconds (the clip is about 15s) and they disappear abruptly before the end of the clip where I want to fade them out. What am I missing? I can't seem to adjust their duration in Effect Controls, and they don't appear as shape layers in my timeline, so how would I go about changing the rectangles' durations?

Hi all, just to update. It's all actually working completely fine. I realised that Premiere was creating the graphic layer on the top video layer (As I work in a team of editors, someone had created another 5 video layers above what I thought was the 'top layer' since I'd worked on it, so I didn't spot them until about 5 mins after I posted this quesiton, I'll blame the lack of sleep for not noticing it sooner). Mondays are the worst, but thanks for all the suggestions! Cleared the cache and that's actually fixed a couple of other issues I was having with the timeline as well. Have a good week all!
