Question

Two issues, one causes Premiere to crash the other is causing video files to go missing.

I've had 2 issues with Premiere Pro (Version 24.3) in the past week, which I am unsure of how to solve. 

 

Issue #1: I imported some videos iPhoto into Premiere Pro to edit. Initially, this worked pretty well and the video clips showed up. I left my computer alone for a while (I can't remember if I closed Premiere or not but it was overnight) and when I came back, I got a red error message stating that my videos were not loading (Video Offline). After doing some research I found that the main cause of this error is rooted in the source - either you change the name, change the location, or delete it entirely - but I did not modify the source in any way. When I tried to do find and replace, my computer took about 2 hours to load and I eventually closed out of it because it didn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. How do I fix this, what is the cause of the issue, and how can I prevent it in the future?

 

Issue #2: I was working on another project today and Premiere Pro repeatedly crashed. Initially, I followed the suggested steps Premiere gave me. I reset the Preferences and also went to update Premiere (it was already fully updated). I took it to the Tech Support at my school, which didn't do a whole lot. The worker there said that Premiere was not recording crash reports on my computer. He also said that my computer's year/model is not an issue. The worker did see the crash, but didn't have many suggestions. What can I do about this?

 

I wasn't completely sure whether or not this was a bug issue or a discussion so I placed it under bug. Are there any suggestions to either or both of these problems?

    #1: I suspect that letting iPhoto control (and hide) the media that you're attempting to use in PPro, could cause difficulties. I don't know of any successful video productions, doing what you're doing. I'd recommend exporting the media from iPhoto, before importing it into PPro.

    What's in that directory? It doesn't sound like you have any local crash reports. In the last 90 days, there are no crash reports associated with your email address.

    For issue #1 I'm assuming you are talking about where I store the original files. In that case, the media is in iPhoto. It's been there the whole time, however I'm not sure if that has something to do with the problem or not. The project itself is stored on my iCloud so that also might be another factor. When I went to my applications folder I was able to find my iPhotos that I used in the project, but not as files just as a part of clicking on iPhotos. In Premiere I know that when I try to find the files to import there are none from iPhoto that appear. Originally when I was editing/importing the videos, I was just right clicking on the video and selecting "Edit With -> Premiere Pro."

     

    For issue #2 I've just been editing normally (not importing or exporting). I can't pinpoint/remember any consistent actions I've been taking to make it crash. I know that the last time it crashed I was trying to fix a title and the "Essential Graphics" panel was undocked, so I went to "Window" to reset it to the saved layout. Other than that, I can't identify any specific patterns unfortunately. With the crash report, I tried to follow the path that you suggested but it would not open the report. I also used Console to try and view my crash reports, but it did not show any for Premiere Pro.

    Issue #1: Where is the project's offline media stored?  
    Can you browse to the location(s), in the OS? Are the files still there?

    Issue #2: What were you trying to do in PPro, when it repeatedly crashed? Find crash logs here:

    • Win: C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\LogTransport2\Logs
    • Mac OS: Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/LogTransport2
