Two laptops, two OS - two Premiere versions needed-Recipe for disaster?
I have a project which involves taking about 80+ hours of minidv videotape that needs to be digitized. I have never done this and am getting all sorts of advice-the essence of the probelm is marrying together old tech with old-ish tech with new tech. The old is the minidv-it needs to run on a tape deck or camera to input the tape to the laptop. I got a brand new laptop for this purpose. Tape deck and camera have USBb connectors-a wonky hookup but better than nothing. My brand new laptop only has USBc connectors. Yes there are adaptors, but for this amount of data the adapters slow things to a crawl and it is akin to forcing an elephant through a drinking straw.
So I have an older laptop running OS Sierra10.12.6. Premiere Pro 2023 does not run on it-I need 2017, according to my more tech savvy son. I have tried to find a way to download 2017 but am not finding success so far-I think the links may no longer be offered. In the event that I am eventually able to do so, will I have a problem importing the older version files into the new? Right now that is a lesser concern-I need to find a way to download a compatible version of Premiere just to get started. I have the complete cc subscription- I read somewhere (protools.com site)that I should be able to do so -but again-the links seem not to be there. This is a project that involves archival work of my now-deceased father; this is not something I can give up on. Advice appreciated. Thank you. Jessie Walker
