Question

Unable to edit h.265 vids from Fuji X-T4 camera

I recorded some footage for a project with these X-T4 camera settings, recording to SD card:

H.265 (HEVC) LPCM, Long GOP

4:2:0 10bit

4k, 24 fps, 3840x2160

The files will not play more than a second in the source monitor even down to 1/8th.  But will play in the Program monitor.

I'm running on an iMac, Premiere 22.1.2.   I cleared the cache, have plenty of hard drive space etc.  Using proxies makes no difference.

I tried transcoding files using media encoder, but the quality of the files ended up being unusable.  I suspect Im not doing this correctly, but haven't been able to find any clear instructions.

Appreciate if anyone has any detailed instructions how to get these files usable without dropping the quality.  Thanks

Hi @Myphototrail ,

Sorry for this problem. We have fixed this in the latest beta builds and this is also on track to be available in normal builds. We will update you soon.

Meanwhile, you can download the latest Premiere Pro Beta build from Creative Cloud --> Beta apps --> Premiere Pro (Beta).
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/creative-cloud-public-beta.html

Please let us know how it goes in the beta build.

Thanks,
Mayjain

Hi Rachel5EAF,

We're sorry about the poor experience. Is H264/HEVC hardware accelerated decoding enabled under Preferences > Media? Also, if possible, please share a download link for one of the sample media with which you are experiencing this issue. It will help us to diagnose the issue properly at our end.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Thanks for quick reply.  Yes, hardware accelerated decoding is enabled in the preferences.  You can download a short video clip from this Dropbox link (240MB):  https://www.dropbox.com/s/g67v3yro8dk9gq4/XT4A5864.MOV?dl=0
