Using the transparent video (in items) to organize my timeline

For years i've been taking transparent layers (from item menu) and  using them in my timelines to organize my footage. For my string outs I put them on top of sections of footage and rename it to let me know what kind of shots I have. FOr example, if I have a string out of 20 clips and 5 of them are trees - I stretch the transparent layer over those 5 clips and rename it to "trees"

Usually when I create "one" transparent layer item in my bin I can duplicate it and rename it with out it changing the name of all of them; but recently when I was trying to teach my assiatnt how to do it - it  actually changed the names of all of them.

I couldn't figure out how to unlink them with out her making new transparent layer items (which suck)

Anyone know how to unlink duplicated transparent layers?

I already see the names. I'm talking about when I duplicate the transparent layer in my timeline and rename it - I don't want premiere to change the names of all of them at the same time. I want the duplicate to stand alone so I can make it something different with out having to create a whole new transparent layer.
