Variable Frame Rate Video is extremely jittery and stuttery.

I have a PVR that I use to record gameplay videos. It does indeed record in a variable frame rate, but it never posed a problem for me since my gameplay videos were rather short, so the audio never fell out of sync that much; and if it did, I could just nudge the audio a frame or two. I never had the necessity to use HandBrake or anything like that. In the new update, which added official support for VFR video, all of my previously smooth footage has become extremely jittery and way out of sync on both the smooth video and audio sync modes. I have no choice but to use HandBrake for all of my new footage.

Before you ask: Yes, I did clear my cache; and yes, I did go to the cache files and manually delete everything.

This is happening not just to my older footage, but my newly recorded footage as well.

In the preview window and in the final exported clip, the footage is way way out of sync, keeps skipping around, and freezes every once and a while.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way I can fix this without the use of HandBrake?

EDIT:

     I just restarted Premiere and the audio and video seem fine, but then once I start scrubbing around, that triggers the sync and jitter to start.

Do you know of any capture device that allows you to record in CFR or CBR? I would be interested. Mine is just a cheap thing I got off of Amazon. It's no Elgato.


Guys, I'm starting to think that this might just be a problem with my PVR. If nobody else has this problem with other devices, I guess I don't mind just setting HandBrake going while I sleep. Thanks for you're efforts!

Ey richarde, try this:

Right click in the video file in Project panel / Modify / Interpret Footage ...

In Frame Rate box, Assume this frame rate: 30 fps or 60 fps.

And if you do not use any of the 2 fps, play a little with some higher or lower values such as 15 fps, 24 fps, 48 fps, etc.

Can you post the specs of a video that is giving you issues?

What about the specs of your PC? Sequence settings used to Premiere?

Alright then. It's the same for all of my videos. I should note, though, that the video and audio plays in sync perfectly when I play the clip from the very beginning. It's when I start it playing in the middle where the preview is messed up. But when I pause the preview, the still frame is the correct frame. I assume when I export the raw footage with Media Encoder it will fix these issues without me having to waste time with HandBrake's slow encode times.

Another weird thing I noticed: With some recent update, all of my VFR videos previously recognized as VFR say "VFR: Not Applicable", but it still says that it detects variable frame rate. What the heck???

Man, that's a bummer. I thought I remembered the minimum as 4GB. That's kind of lame.
