Question

Variable Frame Rate with Screen Capture Video

I am making some video tutorials and capturing my screen using Cam Studio at 1080p and 50 FPS.

I created a new timeline sequence in PremierPro CC with the same settings. I also tried dragging the video to the timeline directly so the project timeline is created automatically based on clips inherent settings.

When I play the recorded screen capture in the timeline it  lags and shutters.

I found a work around for this by converting my videos to constant frame rate using the free software, Handbrake.

Is there any setting in the premier pro that allows me to work with a video with variable frame rate so I can skip converting my videos to constant frame rate?

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm running into the same issue.

I always recommend hardware for screen capture over software.  They usually record to industry standard codecs that edit well.  Something like the following.

If it's mission critical for you to have editable video streams, I have to agree with you. The free option is so sketchy and not very reliable to the point that I would not trust it in any paying gig. Only suitable for no-lo budget productions. You could make your $$$ back in one paying gig.

nikhila76557094,

Sorry you're having trouble. If it were me, I'd get Wirecast and a BMD device and capture ProRes so I could edit with the streams reliably. It would drive me insane if I had my audio lagging or some other technical anomaly that would ruin my content as I was creating it. Might you consider that route?

Thanks,
Kevin

I am able to get a good quality videos after converting it to constant frame rate with Handbrake. It is serving my purpose for time being without any additional investment.

I was just wondering if there is an option to eliminate the conversion step, basically an option to work with a video with variable frame rates in premier pro.

Maybe the issue I am facing is not even due to variable frame rates.

Can anyone recognize any other issues besides variable frame rate?

here is the link again: Video Lag - Streamable

I have uploaded the video of the issue I am facing.  Video Lag - Streamable

In the first half of the video, the clip is playing within the Adobe timeline and the lag is apparent.

In the second half of the video, I am playing the same clip in the VLC media player. The clip is playing fine.

Is there an option to turn on variable frame rate option?

No such option exists.

The latest version supposedly supports variable frame rate, but it doesn't always work as it is supposed to work.
