Question

Video becomes corrupt after a while

1.Adobe Premiere Pro 24.6.1 (also happens in Adobe Premiere 2023)

2. AMD Radeon 7800XT, 30 gig ram, AMD 9, 5900x 12-core, Windows 10 (latest update)

3. Restarting Premiere starts the issue.

The issue: For a few weeks, half of my timeline suddenly becomes corrupt, the audio plays, but no footage. It's just black, if i wait like 20 seconds, i do get a single frame where i left it but nothing else.  I installed a older version of Premiere Pro 23 to see if it happens here. There as well.

I thought it was my drivers being unstable, so i went back with a full driver cleanup using DDU to a stable driver i had back in April. It made no difference.  I reset the program's references using Shift when starting the program, also the other options to start one time without any plugns, made no difference.

What does work every time, is cleaning out the entire cache after i started up Premiere. Than the videos work again, until i start the program again after a day and it suddenly is corrupted again, but than for example only the the left side of the time line is corrupted. This happened in two projects so far, in one project i rendered the files again using Handbrake and that stopped them from going corrupt again.

I do have to mention, that the files i used, were on a harddrive that was failing, but the files itself are not corrupt, they are on a SSD now and the old drive has been discarded and switched with a new one. Could this maybe be the issue? That somehow the files are still corrupted?

Thanks for the reply, but i realized, that the files i used in the projects, is on another drive, a SSD, so it's not possible they are corrupt. I did reset the media cache, completely, including with the shift startup and other options as stated in my first message. I also already tried making a new project and importing the sequence or past cut the timeline videos themself. I also tried with or without Hardware Acceleration. I also have no other programs open while Premiere is open.

And for some reason the AMD RX7000 line still does not have any Pro drivers, a.k.a the Studio driver version of AMD.

Hello @Necramonium_7783,

Thanks for sharing all those details and for filing the bug report. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to deal with these issues, especially in the middle of important projects. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Given what you've described, it sounds like you've already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps. Here are a few more suggestions that might help:

  1. File Integrity: It's possible that some corruption occurred during the transfer from the hard drive. Try re-importing the original files.
  2. Cache Management: Since clearing the cache seems to temporarily resolve the issue, it might be worth deleting the media cache. Press Shift at launch to access the Reset Options dialog box, which offers this option.
  3. Project Corruption: Sometimes, issues can arise from specific project abnormalities. Try creating a new project and importing the problematic sequences to see if the problem persists.
  4. Hardware Acceleration: Disable hardware acceleration in Premiere Pro's preferences or settings to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes, specific GPU drivers can cause conflicts. Perform a clean reinstallation of the latest studio driver to be clear of that issue.
  5. System Resources: Ensure that no other intensive applications are running in the background, as they might be affecting Premiere Pro's performance. Spotify and Chrome are the worst offenders unless you adjust the browser's settings to avoid GPU acceleration. I think it's best not to run any unnecessary apps as you edit.
  6. Adobe Support: If none of these steps work, it might be best to contact Adobe Support directly. Ask for the video queue. They can provide more in-depth assistance and might be aware of specific issues with your hardware configuration.

I hope one of these suggestions helps! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist you. Take care, and good luck with your projects!

Thanks,
Kevin
