Question

Video orientation lock

Problem: I shoot my video in horizontal format 16:9 with Sony FX3 camera and edit in Premiere Pro 2025 Win 11. Sometimes I accidentally hold my camera in vertical position when starting the recording and the result is that the clips is recognized as a vertical format shot. I know that I can fix it in post but is there any way to disable this auto rotation of the orientation in the camera or in Premiere Pro?

Hi @17377266 Frey226538827xlx,

Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forum. I get this problem when shooting with the iPhone. I believe the only way to address this is to make sure that your camera stays locked into the proper aspect ratio. In Premiere Pro you can add a Transform Effect as a source effect and rotate it there. That's what I do. It's a workaround, though. The key is to master your camera settings and fix anything with a source effect > Transform where you have a clip shot in portrait aspect ratio. Sorry for the hassle, but I hope the advice helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @BFrey,

Did @Kevin-Monahan's solution help you?

Hi

Thanks for the messages. I was hoping to find a way to disable the auto rotation function because I have the issue with video files from multiple users. I will keep correcting using the Transform Effect as adviced - it was just a check for a "nice to have" solution.

Thanks,

Betina
