Question

Visual Artist with a weird question regarding Premiere

Hello!

I'm an visual artist who has made video art in the past and have a strange question for those who understand Premiere Pro better than myself.

A few years back, I made a series of video collages using Final Cut Pro X where I used multiple video clips stacked on top of each other. I used the garbage matte tool to cut out the parts/shapes of the clips I liked and put them next to other clips, hence forming a collage.  The technique I used was incredibly crude and ineffecient (I propabably used over 90 different clips all cut and stacked on top of each other) but I really enjoyed the effect, visually.

Below is an example of one of my video pieces using the technique mentioned:

Does anyone have suggestions on how best to accomplish this same type of collage effect with Premiere? When I use premiere and attempt to layer even a few clips (2 or 3) it gets super slow and glitchy. I have rendered the doctored clips but even then it seems like my computer can't handle so many layers.

Does anyone have any suggestions for such a naive visual artist as myself?

Can I accomplish this with premiere or do I need to try with different software?

Thanks so much!

Try moving the files with which you are working onto the internal drive.

How full and what capacity is the internal drive?

    Thanks for the tip!

I will move the project file to the internal drive.

My internal drive is pretty full. It's 250 GB nd I only have 8.97 GB free at this point. I'm guessing that will slow things down a bit?

Also- Do you think the effects I accomplished with Final cut with my previous video is accomplishable with Premiere? Or should I start looking at other software?

    Thansk so much!

What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives, (how many, what kind, what is on each, and how full)?

    Hello!

Ah, great questions. Thanks for asking those as I clearly know next to nothing about computers : )

    I have a Macbook pro from 2013

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    Startup Disk Macintosh HD

    Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB

I am using Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 (4)

and I store my project on a SanDiskSecureAccess V3 .0QSG with 1 TB of storage space.

I hope that answers your questions. If it doesn't please let me know and I'll try answering them again.

    Thanks in advance,
