I was looking for some legitimate videography competitons to enter to build my portfolio and give me some more experience.  I tried looking on google but had no success.  Can anyone please point me in the right direction for some legitimate video competitons?  thanks.

Sometimes they are called "competitions" but probably more often "festival" which is more of a viewer-oriented term.

Regardless of what you call it, there are many. To me, most of them seem more like a way for the organizer(s) to make money and less like a way to foster creativity and help aspiring filmmakers find their voice. But there is at least one, called the "48 Hour Film Project" which could be a lot of fun because of its approach. With that small amount of time, it's mostly about sheer creativity, so the playing field may be a bit more even. Not a lot more even, but a little. 48 Hour Film Project

ok, thanks.  I was looking for something that gives you projects or ideas of what to film.  it is hard for me to come up with my own ideas, so I thought competitons would be helpful because they generally give you the ideas.  I am on freelancer/upwork but haven't had much luck with "employers" accepting my proposals on those sites.

I've never heard of a "video competition".  Common are "film festivals".  Many offer prizes.
