What is the correct sequence setting to edit 4k hevc files?

I do not see an editing mode for hevc in sequence settings with the latest Premiere Pro.

I thought Premiere Pro now supported hevc. Is hevc not an option for sequence settings > editing mode? If not what editing mode should I choose?

Premiere Pro will always and only ever read the media file that you imported.  It doesn't ever do anything like Log and Transfer.  If you want to use a proxy or DI, you'll have to do that conversion manually, PP will never do it automatically.

So yes, if resolution, frame rate and field order match, you're good.

Having said all that, HEVC (H.265) is a bear to edit.  You might not want to convert, but once you try and edit that stuff, you might change your mind.

The sequence settings aren't as important as you might think.  Generally you want the resolution, frame rate and field order to match the footage.  Beyond that, the settings don't matter too much.

Having said that, I would recommend converting that HEVC to Cineform for editing.  I think you'll find the experience much smoother.

You will need a large, fast hard drive to do that, though.  4K Cineform files aren't small.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. The reason I'm asking why there's no hevc settings in Premiere is because Adobe released statements saying they now support it. I switched over from FCP to Premiere precisely because I don't want to transcode for this project.

When you say sequence settings don't matter, am I to understand that if i pick another file format for sequence settings, while choosing the correct res, fps, and aspect ratio, then Premiere will refer back to the original hevc file during export.

Any insight into this is appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, I just switched over from fcp to premiere pro cc because I have a big hevc project coming up and thought Premiere pro supported this. I'm confused why I don't see hevc in any of the sequence settings.
