 i just noticed this new symbol in between my clips. looks kinda like a keyframe symbol? i dont know. is there away to get rid of it? its kinda annoying.

Right click > Join Through Edits. If you make a lot of Through Edits and don't like the UI artifacts, you can switch them off in the Timeline's Settings (AKA The Wrench) menu.
