Why are my waveforms in Premiere suddenly upside down?

Hi all,

This just happened a few days ago.  Not sure if I hit some setting but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  And I don't see any answers in search.  It's annoying also because adjusting the gain is non-intuitive.  When I add gain, the visual squishes "up".  And when I subtract gain the waves stretch "down". 

Please help!

    I think it's an optical illusion. Make the track quite a bit taller and you'll see the waveform on the lower part. The waveform on your screenshots are the black bit. Right-click and change the "Label" to a dark color Blue and Brown work for me with the "Classic" color styles in Preference->Labels, and then the lighter bit will be the waveform.

     

    It's part of the new color scheme in PP. It might take a bit of getting used to.

        Ha, ha, you're welcome. 🙂 I saw it too on your screenshots and I had to adjust my eyes to them. All in all I like the new look (and more is to come). Keep an eye on these forums, here and in Premiere Beta

        to check what things are coming. Adobe is on a roll... I think it's great! 🙂

          Hi @puzzzls. The behavior that you are seeing with the waveforms is the same that has been done before. The thing that you might be noticing is that the clip has a header that now contains the name and badges. The bottom part of the clip header is acting as your clip border, same way as when we didn't had a header.  When you raise the gain of a clip, you are increasing its overall volume or amplitude. Based on your example it looks like the audio you have has already gone through some type of process where the dynamic range has been limited. As you increase the gain the waveform drawing will go up and when you decrease it it will go down.
          If you want to use the full clip container for the visualization you can go to the wrench menu and remove the audio clip name, fx badges and the audio type badge. Again, the behavior will be the same with or wthout the audio clip header with the difference that you will use the entire container for the visualization.           Hello Adolfo.  Thank you for trying to help - but this is quite noticeably a sharp change from how my timeline was working just a few days ago.  An it is for any project.  Projects that were right side up waves are now upside down. 

          I checked my settings and took a screenshot.  I did try turning on and off anything that I thought might have interferred. 

          Again - the behaviour of adding and subtracting gain does not make sense visually.
