why is Nudge affecting the adjacent clip??

Argh. SO MANY THINGS in Premiere are just endless sources of frustration.

I just want to Nudge a clip one frame. I only want to Nudge the selected clip. But the adjacent clip on the same track is also moving. DO NOT WANT.

If there is a gap between two clips, then Nudge does what I want. Just move the selected clip and leave everything else alone.

If two clips are touching, Nudge will affect both of them. The first clip, the one I want to move, actually moves. The second clip, which is merely touching the first one, doesn't move, but its in point is moved. This results in a duplicate frame at the edit point. This makes no sense, why is this happening?

When I move a clip, if that move will create a gap, I want to create a gap. I don't want the movement of a single, selected clip to affect anything else. And I sure as FRAK do not want to create duplicate frames!!

 

I can Nudge a single clip by one frame using the NumPad +/- and then entering a numerical value. This only affects the selected clip.

Why is the Nudge hotkey ALT+comma/period affecting unselected clips?? I don't have Ripple Edit enabled.

The shortcuts that you're using are for Sliding, not nudging.

For nudging, you want to use Alt (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and the left/right arrows.

Hi Aaron,

I'm not entirely clear on what you're trying to achieve by nudging clips in Premiere. In Premiere, moving clips will overwrite the frames of adjacent clips.

Are you looking to move the first clip and push every subsequent clip down the timeline?

I haven't used Sony Vegas, so I'm not familiar with how it handles nudging. If you can provide more details on what you want to achieve, I can offer a better solution.

It is so incredibly simple. I have two clips. They are touching one another. I want to nudge the first clip one frame earlier. In other words, preserve the source In and Out points, but move the whole clip to start earlier in the sequence.

When I do that, I should see a one frame gap between the first clip and the second clip.

 

What is actually happening is that the In point of the second clip is being moved one frame earlier in source time, so that no gap is created on the timeline. The second clip is now one frame longer than it was before.

And since in this case both clips are actually from the same source footage, I end up with a duplicate frame at the edit point. The last frame of the first clip, and the first frame of the second clip, now point at the same frame of the source file.

If a gap exists already, and I Nudge the first clip, nothing weird happens. The first clip just moves within the sequence, and no source In or Out points are altered.
