Working with Old Video

I am working on a historic video and have been lucky enough to receive videos from the 1930s to today. Because they are so different, I know I will need different sequences? How can I edit them together well? Any advice on how to tackle this project?

What format is the video in, there were no video recorders in the 1930s.

There are lots of historic video footage from the 1930s. Do you mean that personal video recorders weren't available until later?

There were no commercial video recorders of any sort until the mid 50s so any earlier footage must have been shot on film and transferred to video later.
