Worried about screen dimensions (image attached)

this image is a screenshot of what i'm working with currently.

does this mean i'm going to have a black box around the screen of the film or no?  i assume the first inner white border is a safe zone of some sorts?  does the video need to be past that first inner white border or no?

Yes, the export will have a black border.

WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get

If the Program viewer window is set to FIT, then whatever you are seeing there is how it will look when exported as well.

Looks to me like you maybe have a 720p video clip in a 1080p sequence.

Do what Neil said, or right-click a clip in Project Bin and select New Sequence from Clip, then the sequence settings of that New Sequence will properly match the video you are working with.

EDIT: The "Safe Margins" markers can be turned off if you want, but I should mention that those guide lines do not show up on the export at all.

    Thanks

Ok that did fix the dimensions, but will I have to do that with every video I import into my Project panel?  At that point I would have duplicates of each video correct?

Should I just start over and make sure my videos come in 1080p?

Those are the various "safe" guidelines and have no bearing on your export dimensions.

Which version of PrPro ..  what's your media frame-size ... and what is your sequence setting?

I would note that if you Mae he sequence by dropping a clip on a blank timeline area or dropping it on the "new item" icon PrPro automatically makes a sequence based on your media.
