Add a "set default export location" option

LEGEND ,
Jan 24, 2023 Jan 24, 2023
Users may want to always export to the same folder as their project, or their media, or any other standard location. We can set default folders for import/ingest, captured video and audio, etc, why not default export folders?!?

Yes, i would love to have this option in Premiere Pro. 🙂

It is already aviable in Adobe Media Encoder by going to Edit > Preferences > General and then check the Specify output file destination and select the desired folder and i use that feature all the time.

Since it is already present in Media Encoder i see no reason to not add that feature to Premiere Pro as well. It would be a great feature to have in Premiere Pro.

me too! the default folder is chosen god-knows-how, and makes for a few extra clicks each export. quite annoying. would love a solution

Yes, this is very annoying to always have to change the export folder when... duh, I OBVIOUSLY want it to be in the same place as my CURRENT project, not some random folder from some previous project.

Should be a no-brainer.
It doesn't make any sense at all the way it its now.
Why would anyone want to export to the previous project's export folder??

Yes! I'm usually working with between 3 and 8 video projects at any one time. Each time I export a video, it defaults to the last export location of the last video. So I open Project X, make changes, export draft, and I then have to navigate to the folders for / Project X video / Export / - and save here. Then later, I open Project Y, make changes, export, and it automatically takes me to Project X / Export /. I have to navigate to / Project Y / Export / before I can save.

... and so on for every project. It's a little tedious when it could be made easier by either of the following:

- Default export folder can be made to be the same folder as the project is saved in.
- Default export folder can be made to be the folder that was last used as a save location by this project.

Really look forward to this little tweak.

Agreed with others here. Export to current project directory by default makes way more sense than a previous location from two weeks ago... Please give us the option!

Yes!!!!!! Unfortunately, instead of fixing this, Adobe gave us a poorly designed Quick Export tool in v14.5 that also suffers from this same, insanely bad issue!

The Pr team's list of priorities is clearly out of whack!
Adobe, please fix what's already there rather than introduce new tools that seem to introduce more new issues than benefits!

Here's a quick example of just how poorly designed the Quick Export tool is:

1. https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/42040618-show-user-presets-...

2. https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/42040705-default-to-last-us...

4. https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/42041155-place-the-quick-ex...

5. Last and worst of all, the same issue posted above by the OP.

Yes, why the heck would I want my new project to export all my files to the previous project? Makes no sense!

Here is what I believe would be the best solution to Pr's exporting problem: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/42617104-relative-export-pa...

Please take a look and add your votes there!
There are 6 or so FRs already asking for the same exporting issue to be fixed, so I'm hoping to consolidate all of the votes under a single thread.

I've attached an illustration as a preview of my solution. Lets all vote to get this issue fixed once and for all! Thanks!

It used to work in the past, but after several updates, it no longer works. I have to specify the output file location EVERY time.

My workflow it to use CTRL+M for the export in Premiere Pro, then click "Add To Queue" to open Media Encoder. I then specify one of my other drives not used for any video, audio, etc. to bounce the rendered video to. Always the same location. Then copy back to my "output" folder for the client's project. It is what I've learned over the years to read from one disk and write to another.

SOLVED!!!!

Even though this should have been programed into Pr years ago, there IS a solution, it's available NOW and it's FREE!

It's called Compass.

You can get this super simple and easy to use plugin here (Mac and PC)
https://knightsoftheeditingtable.com/compass

You're welcome!

Somewhat related: I have a series of six promos to output. Once I CTL-M into the Premier export interface, I name the export file (A-G awaiting house numbers), designate the preset, and the location in the show's output/promos folder. That's all well-and-good - everything "sticks" except the file name I change as I batch out to Encoder. The problem though is that now, instead of just hitting "enter" when I enter the new file name, I have to mouse down to the "Send to Media Encoder" button EVERY time - which used not to be the case. That's a small fix that would help - to allow "enter" to fire the in/out directly to the batch in Encoder. I'm on 22.0 by the way.

My default changes randomly. This week it's stuck on My Documents. Two weeks ago it was stuck on a video I worked on a week or two earlier. Where it puts its output should be one of the highest priorities. For God's sake the output is what it is ALL about.

How is this not solved in 2023 for one of the most popular editing softwares is beyond me. As a non-regular editor, I always accidentally export the renders to my previous project folders which is infuriating. How is it not defaulting to the project location. Like on Photoshop, batch export, you can select, use the same location as project or select a manual location - this would be a perfect solution here as well.

even weirder for me it defualts to "documents", even if I chose a location, export video and then choose my export location of choice, the next time i export, it goes back to "documents".
