Add metadata stabilization for footage from recent sony cameras

Sony started to add post-recording stabilization using gyroscopic data to their line up which started with cameras like the Sony FX9 and later became available in the RX0, ZV-1, a7c, a7SIII, FX3 and FX6. Some of these cameras don't have IBIS. The only software so far that uses the gyro data is Sony's own Catalyst Browse which is free. It's awkward to do a round-trip to stabilize footage. Sony once announced they wanted to make the metadata available to other software companies.

We need this! The extra step to go in Catalyst is a shame for a professional workflow...

Extremely necessary, going into Catalyst Browse to have to export a separate clip is a disgrace.  Doing it non-destructively within Premiere would be much more convenient.

Just wanted to add a bit of new info I found.  Sony offers a "Catalyst Prepare Plugin" for Premiere, but it costs, I kid you not, $10 per month to use.  That's right, just to stabilize clips, they charge you $10 every month.  An open source project called Gyroflow is developing a plugin for Premiere but as of May 2024 it's still in development.  Adobe should get on this.

I've tried that plugin but made Premier crash and behave weirdly. Maybe it was an older version though

You're correct, my experience with the Catalyst Prepare Plugin was absolutely atrocious.  It's not a plugin that shows up in your "effects" tab that you can add to whatever clip you want.  No, instead it auto-detects Sony video files, and auto-adds its own effect to the source media.  Which is a huge problem, becuase it's actually impossible to remove that effect, even if you uninstall the plugin.

Thus, the plugin essentially acts as a virus.  It automatically infects whatever clip you open in the source monitor, and even if you try to uninstall the plugin, every time you open the project you'll be greeted with a warning that the catalyst prepare plugin is "missing".  Try pressing delete, try backspace, try using the "cut" function from the context menu - nothing works to remove the effect.

Thanks for the info - the old subscription based applications really cheese me off - we already bought the camera, the lens and subscribe to CC plus Frame IO, Vimeo etc etc - its a stealth tax that is a bargain for those that use all day every day and rip off for those that use twice a year. Not good customer service IMHO - but I'm glad things are moving with gyro stabilisation - nuts that a random has to do it for free before Adobe or Sony will even look into it.
