AI Upscale Premiere Pro

I would love a feature inside Premiere that utilizes AI for upscaling and restoring videos. I have a substantial amount of standard-definition (SD) material that I'd like to improve in quality.

Hi @MyerPj  - I guess it may depend on the subject and lighting to some degree but I tend to go Topaz first to get it as good as possible them de-Noise with Neat.

Neat is now on V6, only just upgraded on that so minimal experience it so far.

I think I already mentioned in this thread (somewhere?) usually work in ProRes 422, but not on old footage.

Not done any in depth tests to determine which really is the best workflow. If it looks OK on the 4K monitor after processing  I just use that !

Topaz never did release a plug in for Topaz Video Ai in Premiere (which was promised), but seem to manage without it to be honest.

Topaz Video Ai vesion 6.2.0 seems to be working quite well with a 4080 Super GPU.

Have to give credit to Ann Bens for pointing me to Topaz Video Ai initially for DV Tape de-interlace,  upscale to HD and clean up 🙂

I agree with @JonesVid, both those products are quite good. I still need to do some tests with both as I see the Neat denoiser does really a great job. So, I'm trying to figure out if I should run Neat to denoise, then Topaz to sharpen and upscale, or Topaz first then Neat, or Just Topaz alone. Any one run these test before?

Topaz Video Ai is still the best upscaling and clean up software for Video I have tried.

Download trial (with watermark) - https://docs.topazlabs.com/video-ai/download-and-install

You need a decent GPU to speed things up.

For removal of Video noise (e.g. nightshots / high ISO) I have found Neat Video De Noiser plug in for Premiere very good too

https://www.neatvideo.com/download

Both of these links allow Trial/Demo modes before purchase

Great results for something so old @MyerPj .

Nearest equivalent footage I have is 41 years old taken on a VHS JVC 'portable' combination of recorder and camera. The Recorder was so heavy you could only withstand it on your shoulder for 5 minutes !!.

I guess I need to run that footage (UK PAL format of my eldest daughter 1 day old) through Topaz.

Its low light and very noisy VHS so a good test!. Currently in digital format MPEG on a DVD.

In the meantime I'll just have to continue exporting clips on Premiere timeline for processing to Topaz and export back as ProRes 422 ready for smart rendering. I intend to check out the Topaz  Ae Plug in which I have not done yet.

By the way - I assume it is best  to send original clips from Premiere to TopazVideo Ai  in Pro Res format, I guess the answer is yes to make processing faster?

Hey @Warren Heaton10841144 , yes, the stand alone version works really well.

When it does, it's amazing. I bought a Sony M3, in 80's with a vo4800, and I had a that special reel which had my dad in it, (mom's still with me) but Topaz made that footage much better than we could have done back in the day - even the first generation. Here's a one-minute bit I put together for an old client, the sailing stuff is all stock footage.

@MyerPj

I've found the stand-alone Topaz Video AI app to be great.

I've been trying to use the "Enhance" After Effects plugin from Topaz Labs, but it crashes AE as soon as an AI Model is selected in both AE 23.6.9 and 24.6.0.

I've had an open support ticket with Topaz Labs for a while now and collect new logs and send them after each update.
