Apps integration

Wouldn’t it make sense to ask Adobe to integrate after effects into premiere, same as fusion is integrated in davinci resolve, since AF is also used for compositing. That’s much more reliable that the mostly broken dynamic link, & also less destructive since over in davinci land you don’t have to replace footage with fusion comp, so if you need to do any adjustments later your footage will be as intact. also the trips between the pages are instantaneous.

I'm in favor of more motion design friendly features in Premiere Pro that share the functionality of After Effects and I'd also like to see the plugins included with After Effects also work in Premiere Pro (namely Detail-preserving Upscale and Keylight), but I wouldn't want After Effects to be direclty integrated into Premiere Pro.

As far as moving beetween the two quickly goes, I work between After Effects and Premiere Pro and frequently take advantage of being able to copy and paste between Timelines.  It's immediate if both applications are open.

I know plenty of video editors who never do motion design and plenty of motion designers who never do video editing.

While Resolve has a great feature set, it's not trouble free and it still needs kearning.  (It has tracking, not kerning).

I work a lot with pro colorists and finishers. Many of whom are resigned that Fusion is there to stay as an integral part of Resolve.

But not best pleased about it. If they really need Fusion, they still prefer the stand-alone.

So even over there, thoughts are very mixed.

Just keep in mind: Resolve's total usefulness for BlackMagic is only to get users to buy hardware. They don't make a dime on Resolve. It's a normal and fine profit model, but you do need to be aware of their needs. They are not a software company. They make cool hardware.

Personally, I've enough BM kit that I've a couple extra Resolve Studio licenses in a drawer. Just got an Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2 when they put them on half price in May. Wow, that's  ....amazing. Loving it.

Recent comments from heavy Hollywood/broadcast users have noted that the changes in R19 aren't an enticement for their peers to adopt Resolve as the main game throughout the process.

But would be for the smaller, independent users that do only local corporate/web productions. And the more extensive YouTube crowd. Which is a combined decently large market to sell hardware to, by the by ...

Thanks, guys for taking the time to reply.

I think it could happen if enough customers request the integration, as Adobe had told me when I suggested it.

Regarding Premiere being lightweight versus After Effects, Davinci resolve has shown already not only that it can be done, but it can also run circles around Premiere & After Effects in smoothness, try something like rotoscoping or green screen effects in Davinci, smoothness is night and day compared to adobe.

I don't think dynamic link can match what Davinci offers, from snappy switch between pages, or not having to save a new comp every time you work on a clip in fusion from resolve, & the fact that after you work if you change your mind & you want to adjust something you can just with a click of a button reset all the comp.

I also think that since After Effects is not only used for motion graphics but also for compositing,  it would make sense to integrate it to the program (premiere pro) that you will start the edit in.

Finally, I think there is a reason why anyone who tried resolve never complained about it being all in one editing & compositing house, but only were all happy with that integration.

It would be nice if they made the Dynamic Link process a LOT more stable.

But integrating? Not thinking that's necessarily good. Even in Resolve there are color management issues between Fusion and the rest of Resolve. As there are between Pr and Ae for some tasks.

That needs to get sorted also.

I don't think this will ever happen. And maybe even better as Premiere is more lighweight than After effects which requires a lot of processing power.

But who knows....
