Better project management

We often need to collect the project for transfering or archiving purposes. When collecting - all assets will be collected in one folder which is a bit messy....it would be great if files can be collected in 2 ways:
- following the Premiere project bin structure
Or
- following the folder structure on hard drive
That would help us a lot in keeping the collected projects organized.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

It is one of many areas we are looking into.

Hello,
"Trimming" is indeed a good definition for "Removing only unused frames but keep same codec, same quality, metadata, .. without transcoding".
It is part of some known NLEs consolidation feature, but not all of them, and Premiere Pro does not have this feature for now.
That's why we (Autokroma) created our Third Party Plugin "PlumePack" for Premiere Pro. It is a "Project Manager" plugin which consolidates your project. More than offering additionnal features for the "Only copy" compared to the native Project Manager, the Premium version allow the user to "Trim" its media based on their use in the current project. With it, you can save a lot of disk space without changing codec, quality and metadata of your files.
Also, the main topic discussed here : following the initial media folder structure for the final project folder is one of the setting PlumePack has !
Best,
Nicolas from Autokroma

Please implement this, Adobe! If After Effects Dependencies does this, the Project Manager should. Also needed is a Dependencies > Reduce Project function in Premiere. Project Manager can exclude unused clips when copying to a new location, but it can't reduce the current project. Thanks!

My main gripe with the Project Manager is that it only works skin deep.

It does copy over dynamically linked AEP files to your archive, but omits any assets that were used in that AEP file. It has happened to me that I opened a previous project from an archived disk, only to discover that the company logo that was once part of the animation (inside an AEP file) was not stored on the disc. This can be really crucial.

It's great that you're looking for ways to improve project management and keep things organized. Collecting projects for transfer or archiving can sometimes lead to a messy folder structure. Two approaches could be beneficial: 1. Following the Premiere project bin structure: This allows for a seamless transfer of assets, maintaining the organization within Premiere. 2. Following the folder structure on the hard drive: This approach mirrors the organization on the hard drive, making it easier to navigate and locate files outside of Premiere. For further enhancement of your project management skills, you might want to consider checking out project management courses . They can provide valuable insights and strategies to streamline your workflow.

Your suggestion for better project management in terms of organizing collected assets sounds really practical. Having the option to organize files following either the Premiere project bin structure or the folder structure on the hard drive would indeed make it easier to keep things tidy and accessible.
On a somewhat related note, if you're interested in improving your skills in systems operations on AWS, you might want to explore relevant courses. It's always a good idea to stay updated with the latest tools and techniques for efficient project management.

I don't wish to use yet another plugin to solve an issue that Adobe should take care of. If the promise is to use the Project Manager for proper archiving, it should do just that: proper archiving.

Hello Richard,

we are now using PlumePack. I got tired of waiting for Adobe to finally extend Projectmanager to make it useful.

Fantastic what PlumePack can do. Exactly what I have been looking for a long time.

No use getting angry about it and waiting for this feature to come from Adobe.

Greetings,

Frieder

Why is it so difficoult and tooks so much time to repair it? As far as I remember Media Manager never worked as it should! It's a crucial functionality for every professional NLE. Simple plugin like Plume Pack makes it on the fly and I really don't understand why should we pay extra 100$ for thing that should be built in.

Seriously? "It's one of many areas we are looking into." What a lazy, uncommital response from Adobe. How about you FOCUS on this highly voted request instead of doubling down on new, buggy additions?

I was working on a video project and faced a similar issue. My files were all over the place after collecting them. It was a headache trying to find what I needed! That's why I think your idea about organizing files based on Premiere's bin structure or the hard drive folders is spot on. It would save so much time and keep things neat and tidy.

By the way, have you heard about sugar customer relationship management? It's this really handy tool for managing customer relationships. I've used it before and it's been a game-changer in keeping everything organized on the client front. Might be worth checking out if you're looking to streamline things even further!
