Innovative Feature Suggestion: AI-Powered Transcript Editing and Scene Auto-Cutting in Premiere Pro
I’d like to propose a highly innovative and practical feature that would greatly enhance workflow efficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro—especially for editors working with interviews, documentaries, podcasts, and other dialogue-heavy content.
Feature Overview:
Introduce the ability to paste a time-coded, edited transcript (such as one prepared from a transcription service or AI tool) directly into Adobe Premiere after a video has already been imported, and have Premiere automatically cut scenes based on the transcript. This feature would allow users to edit by text and have those edits instantly reflected on the video timeline.
Core Functions:
Auto-Cut by Transcript:
Once the edited transcript (including timestamps) is pasted into Premiere, AI could intelligently compare it against the original video’s transcription and auto-cut or trim clips according to what remains in the edited transcript.
Reverse Integration:
Inversely, users could be provided with a transcript editor built directly into Premiere Pro, where they can make edits to the transcript inside the application. Any sections of dialogue removed from the transcript would automatically remove the corresponding video and audio segments from the timeline.
Filler Word Cleanup (e.g., “You know”, “Um”, etc.):
AI could also offer an intelligent cleanup tool to detect and optionally remove overused filler words or phrases—either automatically or via batch-selection—based on user preferences. This would save editors hours of manually scrubbing timelines to polish unscripted dialogue.
Benefits:
Significantly reduces time spent on manual timeline trimming.
Empowers editors to work in a more intuitive, text-based environment.
Enhances accessibility and efficiency, especially for creators with large volumes of dialogue-based footage.
Makes Premiere Pro more competitive with AI-based editing platforms that are beginning to incorporate these capabilities.
Why This is Needed:
Currently, transcript-based editing exists in a limited form (e.g., using Adobe’s Speech to Text and Text-Based Editing), but there is no straightforward way to import an external edited transcript and have Premiere conform the sequence to it, or to automatically clean filler words in a smart way. Integrating this AI-powered, bi-directional workflow would streamline the editing process dramatically.
