Display small color swatches next to the name of each color label in the context menu. It's not easy to remember the difference between Caribbean and Cerulean!

Or just get rid of the names altogether! I really don't need to know what Adobe wants to call this shade of green. I just need to know what it looks like!!!

Yes! Totally! Seems so obvious to me! And would save a lot of time finding the right one.

This would be a neat addition, but in the meantime, you can rename Caribbean and Cerulean (and all the color labels) to whatever you want.

I came here to post this myself, glad it's already been said, it's definitely needed. I can never remember what shade 'cerulean' even is!!

I have wished for this for so long and thought that, hey, Adobe won't be silly enough not to have introduced this with the next version, yet years have gone by and we still don't have this simple, but highly importunate visual aid.

And I agree with Anonymous, just get rid of the names altogether. Who cares what silly names they are given. But make this optional, since, in a bigger studio, I can imagine it is helpful when it comes to documenting processes to actually have a name to refer to. But for us smaller one-people-bands, it's just a waste of time.

...Or at least to put them in alphabetic order!

This is a cool idea. But I am pretty sure that you can rename the colors in the preferences tab 🙂

Please put a small square with what color the label is next to the color name, not just the color name. Thanks!

Umm, yes please.
I use similar colors to relate clips together (or opposite colors to separate). It takes a few guesses to find which ones match.
Very annoying.

Can we just get rid of the names and just show the colors in the label menu option please?

I'd like to see both options as the OP suggested.
It's like the same idea as in the general 'Project'-window a small box with the label color inside, and next to it the name (of the folder/file).

I hope this suggestion comes through!

I like to change my clip colors by right clicking a clip or group of clips in the timeline, going to >label> then selecting the label color. With all of the new color options I have a hard time remembering which color is which, and which color I've selected for specific characters, locations, or scenes in my timeline. Would be great just to have a small swatch next to the color name to quickly identify!

I do a lot of grouping of clips by Label/color, and it drives me insane not being able to see the actual color when pulling up the Label menu. What is "Caribbean," anyway!?

I always set label color to separate clips in timeline. But I never remember the color name. I have to try every single item in the Label menu until I found the color that I want. If there are sample colors in the menu will make it a lot faster.

I agree. A swatch book is far more intuitive than a list of words for picking colors. Especially when half the colors have very esoteric names.

Yes that is definitely something that would help.
By the way, Eric, you can change the „esoteric names“ in the settings 😉

Even better would be a dockable panel just like this:
https://aescripts.com/labels/

That would let you pick a color and do all kinds of the things you do with labels, like select all from a certain group, at one quick click. It would fit perfectly either to the right of the timeline next to the AU meters or to the left next to the selection tools

Color picker is already used extensively in FX so can't see this would be a very difficult feature to include and would improve workflow.

Or just use sensible names for them. Not Caribbean, Cerulean and Iris. Because no-one knows that means Dark green. And you could just call it 'Dark green'.
