Ripple, rolling edit tools way harder to initiate with a transition applied now

Since the 24.4 update that changed the interaction with transitions between clips, you can no longer grab the clip break line with ripple, rolling edit, slip tools etc when your mouse is in the red area and you have a transition applied.

THRILLHO_1-1717593813208.png

You can only grab it when your mouse is in the green area which is very fiddly to do since it tries to click on the transition itself, rather than the edit point.

It gets even harder when the track is shrunk to a small size and the relative red deadzone is still there but now the grabbable sections are even smaller.

Please fix this by allowing these tools to grab ANYWHERE on the edit break line like it previously used to

Agreed!

That's a right royal pain, especially as the re-located Fx badge is too close to the cut point also.

Hi @Tom Fewchuk thank you for your feedback. The target areas for using the rolling edit or slip tools haven't changed from previous versions. The new clip re-design uses the same size and position of the target areas as in previous versions. The cursor contextually changes when the tool hits those target areas. I'll pass the feedback to the team to see if they can extend the target area as you are suggesting.

Thanks again!

@Adolfo H. Oh wow, you're right, I never realised that, but I think it was because it was so obvious where those bounds were with the coloured square box - much more intuitive to grab around it esp on the lower half than this one.

This was one of the only new features I initially actually liked from the update - that it shows the style of transition that is occuring and it feels a bit smoother when expanding or contracting it.

However, now comparing it to the old style, I'd far rather the old one with the visual colour that makes it stand out a lot better, and the visual cue to grab the top/bottom a lot easier.

@Adolfo H. oh and I just figured out why this is such an unintuitive update.

The new transition box goes from halfway from the top of the track all the way to the bottom of the track but when I'm using the selection tool, I can only click on the transition box in that red zone I showed earlier and not the very bottom of the box like it would seem like you'd be able to.

And vice versa, for the rolling edit tool, it seems like you shouldn't be able to grab anywhere apart from the top green area, but you can still grab that lower area. Not an intuitive design.

My suggestion to make this work better would be:

- If you're using the selection tool, you should be able to click anywhere in the transition box to be able to select the transition and then delete it or select and drag it wider or narrower etc.

- And if you're using the rolling edit tool (or others), you should be able to select anywhere on the edit line (even above the transition box graphic) to then perform a rolling edit.

In other words, if you've chosen to use a particular tool, it should take over fully and not be restricted to being useful in only half the area of work space.

HOWEVER, then the downside I see is that using selection tool to just drag the clip larger/smaller becomes impossible since you'll always be selecting the transition instead.. hmmm

Seems like the best option is what we've always had, the well defined coloured box!

@Adolfo H.

I see no different in behavior, but the FX box does make it harder to trim at the top.

There is so little room between the FX button and the cut.

One is compelled to do the trimming at the bottom of the clip

or turn off the FX button (which has become unless anyway).

I would like to see a different color for the transition instead of this semi transparancy.
