Question

128 bit encrypted hard drives and Premiere Pro (latest)

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone would know if Premiere Pro (and other associated CC apps) are able to work with Encrypted external Hard Drives? 128bit encrypted drives*

This is something new to us so if anyone has any experience or knowledge that would be great but searching the forums, we haven't found anything relatable.

Perhaps this isn't something of the norm or no one has ever had any problems in the past.

Thanks!

My recommendation is to use external drives for archiving and backups only.  Do the work from internal drives.

Hello folks -

I am using ENCRYPTED external drives in my project. I work on a laptop on the road so my extenal 2 Tb SSD is vital to my workflow and with some 5-6 Tb of materials in the project altogether, this will only carry my proxy files. The big files will have to live on two slower external HDs which need to be encrypted (research related so university rules apply). So I have two questions:

1) should I just forget about keeping the proxy SSD password-protected and encrypted as well?

2) does anyone have experience of using encrypted external drives as a source, then editing proxies and exporting - any idea what I can expect?

I have been reading these forums for 10+ years, and I do not remember ever seeing anyone else ask about encrypted drives

Hi John,

I haven't come across this question anywhere either myself so thought I'd open a discussion. We're assuming this wouldn't cause a problem for external drives.

Thanks for your response.
