I have the latest Premiere Pro CC version. I am not getting the red text box outline when I select the Type Tool. I can only add new text layers, but I cannot get multiple lines of text. Am I suppose to put my left foot on the ceiling while I select the type tool, or do I put my right foot out the window? I am sure it is a simple fix I am overlooking. Thanks in advance for the help.

To clarify: If you select the type tool and then click in the Program monitor with the tool, the red text box does not appear?

Exactly correct. I have spent a few frustrating hours looking at videos, none of which say anything like, "but, first you have to turn on the ____ switch."

If you go to the menu File > Project Settings > General, what is the renderer set to?
As a test, not a solution, you might try switching it to Software Only, and see if you get the same results.

Process is ... select the Type tool and click in the Program monitor, then the small red box appears, which resizes as you type ...
Or click/drag to make a bigger box which is a set-boundary/size box, that you would need to adjust size depending on text to be included ...
Click on the little folded-corner paper icon here in the EGP to create something new, (red 1), click on "text" (red 2) ... then a box appears as on the monitor here with the layer for it at the top of the EGP layer stack. Click in the box to start typing text.
And to make a multiple-line text box, create a bounded text box as in the previous step, start typing ... for each line, hit the "enter" key at the end of the current line to make a new line. When done, go back to the "move" or selection tool (the arrow tool) and select the box, then drag the sides to where they need to be to show your text.
If you're not seeing the boxes, you might have your monitor set to scale more than 100%, which can be an issue. Most screens will work ok if scaling is set to 150% or 200%, but not say if set to 125%.

Yep, I tried all of that, but no box. My monitor is set to 100%. And thanks also to MtD, but nothing doing. I am new to Premiere Pro but not new to Adobe, especially Illustrator, so I am used to Adobe's "Philosophy of Things". Usually when something like this happens it is something I hope someone from Adobe will catch this conversation and give me a vowel. Thanks everyone!

The usual first step when Premiere acts unexpectedly is to trash your preferences. See:
FAQ: How to reset (trash) preferences in Premiere Pro?

I did the reset as you suggested MtD, and maybe that was the fix. But, when I clicked on COLOR at the top I magically got the text box outline. And it works. Thanks everyone!
