I just wanted to know what's the easiest way to capture video from an external blu-ray player into Premier to edit for fun/practice.

Thanks!

I have a camera that shoots full HD and a TV screen that is pretty decent. If I set the camera up on tripod and frame it right, and shoot what I want to have, it is really good quality.  Just takes time to set up.

One note on handbrake. Make sure your output is set to mp4 and not mkv.

Premiere won't bring in MKV files and that would mean you starting a new thread on a "mkv bug" in Premiere

Use a ripper and transcoder like the HandBrake. Here you have everything you need in these links.

So, I'll have to get an external blu-ray player to use Hand Brake since my iMac doesn't currently have one? Is there a model that you recommend?

Thanks!

You need a Blu-ray reader connected to your computer, there you rip it and transcode with HandBrake. After that you can edit it.

Or instead, take the ripped Blu-ray files from another computer to your computer and transcode them with HandBrake. The thing here is to have the internal files of the Blu-ray Disc to do with them what everything we want, in this case transcoding them to an acceptable format by Premiere Pro to edit them.
