Hello to all the members of this communtiy!

This is my first post, so I will get right in the business hehe 😄

I'm trying to cut few scence from a video file: name.mkv (HEVC codec), and this file color profile appears different in different softwares that handles playing/editing/conversion type of task. I think it's happening beacuse of how its being decoced perhaps?

I'm curios to know what you all have to say about this.

Thank you,

This also could be because of the system you're using. Say with a newish Mac with a Retina monitor in the rather odd and unique Apple Display-P3 space, this would be expected due to the issues between that unusual color space and their ColorSync utility's also odd application of only part of the Rec.709 video standards.

So ... like Branded... says ... we'd need more information.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply!

I'm a visual effects compositor maily work with Foundry Nuke. I have ripped a blue ray movie which is recenlty worked for and purchased a copy. I'm trying to cut those scenes to make my demo reel for work.

Please refer to the video information (for all the technical information) When i play this file on VLC the color profile seems to be correct, and when imported to prPro the gamma profile (or lut) changes.(Everything becomes a bit washed out).

There are other players/cornvertors i tried.

When played in VLC = works correclyt

played in Windows Media Player = washed out

played in deafult windows movie player (windows 10)  = works correctly

k lite media player = washed out

hand brake = washed out when file is imported

any video convertor = washed out  when file is imported

PrPro = washed out when file is imported.

I'm curios how come the file works fine when played in VLC and other looses the color profile?

Please post more information so we can try and help solve your problem.

On a general note, MKV is a container, not a codec. It could very well be that it gets decoded differently by various decoding applications.
