Question

Encore not accepting Premiere Pro's chapters

I have been using Encore with Premiere Pro CC 2017 since the upgrade. Recently I built a new computer and now I cannot seem to get my chapter markers to move from Premiere Pro to Encore when I import the exported files.

When I chatted with Adobe they said that Premiere Pro CC 2017 does not work with Encore, but if that is the case then how has it been working for the last 7 months? (CC 2017 came out in Nov. 2016 and I have used it up to May 2017) However the exported .wav and .mpeg files are imported to Encore just fine.

Super confused, turning to here as a last ditch effort. Please help.

You are correct; chat is wrong. Markers from PR CC 2017 can be imported to EN CS6. But there are ways to get the marker to fail! There was a problem with one of the early CC versions, but I have heard of no problems with CC 2017.

Review the following and see if you are doing something differently now than when it was working before.

The following is from testing with PR CC 2017 (probably 2017.1) and Encore CS6.

Markers that will import to Encore as Chapters must be Sequence Markers (not clip markers), and must be selected as “Chapter Marker” (not Comment or other markers).

They can be created with or without a chapter name. This may not have been true in the past, but markers with and without names carried into Encore in my current tests. Encore keeps the name if one is given.

Metadata Tab DEFAULT (in PR/AME export settings) includes “Create Sidecar File” (rather than “None” or “Embed in Output File and Create Sidecar File”) and “Export Master Speech Track and Sequence Markers.” Both of these need to be set for transfer to occur. The Metadata tab is “lit up” after leaving it, but shows no indication of selection or setting once clicking elsewhere. IF YOU CHANGE this for an export, it remembers the last setting, without showing any change in the button appearance. So if you export with “None” for metadata, metadata will be turned off for the next export until you turn it on.

This is easy to check as a problem, since it will create no XMP/XMPSES files. You cannot tell upon import to Encore, as the XMP/XMPSES files do not show as present when selecting files for import to Encore.

MPEG2-DVD export creates an XMP file but not XMPSES file. The chapter information is included in the XMP file.

MPEG2-BD export creates an XMP and XMPSES files. The chapter information is included in BOTH the XMP and XMPSES files.

H.264 Blu-ray export creates an XMP and XMPSES files. The chapter information is included ONLY in the XMPSES file.

Importing to Encore “as timeline” or importing “as asset” (and then using asset to create a timeline) gives the same results.

Stan - I actually found your suggestion when I was searching current forums. All of my markers are Chapter Markers, an XMP file is created, however when I pull the XMP file into Encore it rejects it with "The software that is used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem." So is there a software I am missing to have Encore recognize the XMP file?

Don't think it matters, but just tracking:

EN CS6 had updates (a long time ago): Windows: 6.0.2; Mac 6.0.1

PR CC is now 2017.1.2 (June 2017)

PR CC 2017.1.2 and EN CS6 6.0
