Export Taking Too Long

New Here ,
Apr 23, 2020 Apr 23, 2020

I need some help. PLEASE. Adobe has not provided me with straightforward answers and I am sooooo frustrated I could spit. I have worked with Adobe Premiere Pro for 4 years now and have never had a real problem with exporting files. Now a rep is trying to tell me that it might have something to do with variable bit rate video files on an IPhone vs constant bit rate, etc. Whatever. I have a low IQ on many things but I can promise you, that assessment is WRONG. I did nothing from last year to this year and when I would export about 25 minutes of a video show, it would take maybe an hour to export. Yesterday I tried exporting a 5 minute video ALL SHOT ON A GOPRO and it said it would take 9 hours! Unacceptable. If I could walk away from Adobe I would BUT all my shows are edited and ready to go and all I want to do is speed up the exporting, etc. SO I am looking at a new Mac Book Pro with better speed, specs, all the bells and whistles, and then I am thinking of using Adobe's 2020 updated version. Here's my dilemma. A few years ago I went and updated my premiere Pro version and it screwed up all my video editing sessions,. I couldn't find the files and the video pieces here and there and they just wouldn't come back into the session . . . SO what did Adobe do for me . . . you ready? They got me to reload the previous version, and magically all my sessions were back to normal. And they wanted a standing ovation. Buttheads. Big deal. They did nothing for me. SO my biggest concern is my past shows. If I get a new Mac and go wth there 2020 upgrade of Premiere Pro, what guarantees do I have that my previous files and sessions will be recognized and open correctly? AND to maybe solve that problem entirely, can I use that older version on the files I have now and use a different newer version on a newer computer? Does Adobe allow me to do that? I saw you had knowledge of stuff like this so I am praying you might be kind enough to help me and give me some intelligent guidance rather than poor guessing. Thanks and I hope I hear from you soon. Love, Austin.   thebestvoice@gmail.com

There is no guarantee your old projects will work in the new version. Projects created in CC2018 work best in CC2018, projects created in CC2019 work best in CC2019, etc etc. Complete your current projects in your current version of project. If you upgrade (you can download CC2020 without uninstalling your current version) then you can test your old projects in CC2020. I recommend to create a NEW project in CC2020 then IMPORT your old project. Do not OPEN your old project in CC2020. IMPORT it. This may seem like a triviality but I assure you, it is not.

This is great advice and I cannot say thank you enough. Blessings. I'd like
to tell you if I have success or not. Would I just find this message again
and reply?
Also . . . you are saying clearly I can have 2 versions? The older version
on my old computer and the new one on the new computer? OR both on the
new MacBook Pro? If so, please explain what I need to do okay? THANKS!!!

Yes, you can have multiple versions of any one program installed on your computer at the same time.  I have creative cloud subscription and use different versions of several programs simultaneously as you can see below in screenshot.  If I'm working on old projects I'll use the matching version, unless I'm doing major work in which case I will convert it to new version and take the time to package the project into a new folder so old project remains untouched.  Generally I find if you package up a project in an old version, you can open in new version and it's mostly ok.

Tip: I do my best never to update the latest versions, as Adobe seem to have a knack of cocking up new versions and spend all their time releasing bug fixes for something they should have done properly in the first place.  I stick to a few versions behind wherever possible, then if there's issues they're usually well researched and you can find workarounds online.  Pisses me off to be a guinea pig for Adobe.

Perfect . . I know how you feel.
So I can download a new version and still have an older version available?
I'm not sure how I can do that without it kicking out the old one or
overwriting my older version BUT I'll try to google that so I get it right.
I am seriously not wanting to ruin older sessions so I'll prolly get a new
version or newer version and start making all my new sessions there, and If
I figure out how to keep the 2 versions separate, I'll be able to open
older sessions in the older version just as I have been doing. I hope this
works. I have put too many hundreds of hours into these sessions, I would
hate to have them messed up and lose anything at all. Wish me luck ha ha ha
ha and thanks for the invaluable advice. I am in many ways a rookie. Picked
up editing on my own because i wanted to do a TV show and did not want
anyone else trying to tell the story their way. Too many of those shots
down behind a field of waving grass that goes from blurry to in-focus and
no one really knows why. ha ha ha ha ha ha
Thanks again.
Love, Austin.

LATEST

from memory, when you select a new version to install, it will ask you whether you want to delete or keep the old version.  Google it first maybe, or try it out on another Adobe program that you don't use first (presuming you have creative cloud subscription)

good luck
