Gen 8 i7 + Radeon RX Vega M producing green+purple video when exporting with hardware encoding on (opencl)

Hi all, I recently got an HP Spectre 360 running Windows 10 that has the Gen 8 i7 + Radeon RX Vega M combo in it. All drivers and Adobe software are updated. When I export from Premiere or Media Encoder with hardware encoding/acceleration on it produces a video with green and purple glitching over the entire thing. When I turn it off it exports perfectly normal. I'm happy to say I can actually get normal looking video to export but this doesn't seem optimal now that I'm using software encoding. Sometimes Premiere even crashes when I hit ctrl+m.

Any suggestions or is this something I'm going to have to wait for Adobe to fix? I understand that this is brand new hardware, but it's kind of annoying.

Thanks!

Hello Tyler I have the same computer as you and I’ll save you some time on trying to figure out who to call to resolve this. So through the ladder adobe can’t fix it AMD can’t fix it but after being on the phone with ho for an hour and a half my graphics card works perfect.

To save some time urself you don’t have to call HP. Instead go on their website and look for the latest BIOS update for our laptop: Hp Spectre 15t- ch000 10. After that update you need to update windows 10 to the latest 1903 windows update. Finally go into device manager click on display adapters right click the rx Vega M and then you will see a new driver update. After that update is done you will now be able to export your videos using the gpu accelerator in Adobe!!!

Keep in mind it is not a quick fix and all the updates took me around 2 hours to get where I am at now!

Really hope this helps out because you did not waste your money on this laptop and it does incredible performance. If what I said doesn’t make sense just call HP I had incredible customer support over the phone with them!

This sounds like a known issue with older Intel drivers. You can find more information on the issue and how to update to latest Intel drivers to resolve issue at: Resolution for an issue where green, purple, or pink haze appears in the Source or Program monitors, or the exported fil…

    Hope this helps.

I'm still having this issue with my HP Spectre 360 with Radeon RX Vega M. It's flat out disabled hardware encoding (the mercury engine). My drivers are up to date and so is Premiere Pro CC. Did I make a $2000 mistake buying this laptop last year? Will Adobe ever figure this out and use the discrete graphics card instead of the weak intel 630 one?

I am having the same issue after rendering a couple of clips on my Spectre x360 vega m gpu as well

There is an Intel graphic driver update that fixed it for my Intel NUC i7 8th gen VEGA M GH.

Support for Radeon™ RX Vega M GL Graphics

I did a dxdiag info dump before and after.

    The old driver version was:

    Driver File Version: 23.20.0016.4973 (English)

    Driver Version: 23.20.16.4973

    Updated driver:

    Driver File Version: 25.20.0100.6326 (English)

    Driver Version: 25.20.100.6326

I already had the latest Radeon VEGA 18.9.1 via AMD's updater.

Were you able to use the Vega card instead of it forcing you to use Open CL?  I am getting that issue where it won't use my vega graphics card, like it's not supported.  I also have the HP Spectre x360 with the Vega GPU.

Having the same problem with a brand new Dell running the Radeon RX Vega M and Intel i7 8th gen.

Any better success in the meanwhile? I got the same laptop (HP Spectre 360 with VEGA) and I was working with Cyberlink's PowerDirector 16 - and that software does not even let me use the VEGA hardware encoding, blocked as 'locked to slower intel GPU in the AMD controller software,  and now I was considering switching to Adobe Premiere....

Do you have the same gear, especially video card? If so, appropriate to post here. If not ... you might be better served by going through other threads on purple/green images.

Also, which number-dot-number version are you on? 12.1.2 recently released fixed this for many users, just a few more to nail down what's happening.

Yes, same Computer/Video Card verbatim etc. I have updated to 12.1.2 Premiere and still get constant render errors when using Hardware OpenCL render acceleration. Software renderer has no issues.

That's an issue that's dependent on the graphics driver involved. So constantly checking manually with the manufacturer may bring your cure. Or, if there's a previous driver for it (if you are on latest driver) try rolling back one driver.

    Yea, frustrating.
