[HELP] Shuttle Control Not Working

I'm fairly new to Premiere Pro, and accidently clicked either "J" or "L", enabling the shuttle control. Seems to be the consensus that "K" is supposed to reset it back to a normal playback speed, but all it does for me is pause the playback-- when I resume, it's still playing at a ludicrously fast or slow speed, and there doesn't seem to be any way to fine tune this. PLEASE help, for some reason it's been applied to all of my projects and is making it impossible to work. I've tried launching Premiere while holding "ALT", switching the shuttle control keys... nothing doing.

    At least it's working! It's amazing cause you uninstalled and reinstalled the software and in all that you didn't reboot.

    That of course is one of the first things to do when the computer is acting odd. I would probably close and restart the software, and if that didn't do it, I would reboot my machine. I do that whenever I go for coffee anyway...

    Thanks for the clarification. Contrary to the one of the posts here, 'double-tapping' is not how that works. Each time you press J or L the playback speeds up (in reverse or forward) and pressing the opposite key (say J if you had already sped up going forward, slows down a notch). So, if you are going fast forward, press J a few times, it should slow down the playback. And K then stops the playback. If you press L again, it starts again from normal speed.

    Maybe try switching Workspaces those are by default displayed at the top of PP or available on the Window menu. Also, a screenshot or better a short video clip of what is happening would be helpful. You could take one with your phone or using a screen capture software.

    Somehow over that whole day I never thought to restart my computer, but that seems to have done it. Sorry for the goose chase, but thanks so very much! I'll keep this thread in mind if it ever happens again and a restart doesn't resolve it. Thanks again!

    There must be a way to manually alter shuttle control, right? Considering the very nature of a shortcut key?

    You said 'shutter' twice now, I assumed it was a typo the first time, but is that what you mean?

    Sorry, I meant 'shuttle control.' Photography jargon kicking in.

    Still nothing, I don't get it. Thoroughly fresh reinstall, and right off the bat the tutorial video has the same shutter control speed as before I uninstalled the program, as does anything I try and import into new projects. How can this be? I even specified during the uninstall to reset all my preferences....

    OK, be sure to run the Adobe Cleaner after you uninstall the programs and before you re-install them:

    Will do, thanks a lot for your time and help. I'll see if this resets it.

    I'm not catching your drift on 'overshooting'?

    Try it with a new project. Import a clip... drop it in the empty timeline window and try your controls...

    By "overshooting" I just mean that I can't fine-tune the shutter control back to where it started. And a totally new project with a totally new clip doesn't change anything, even after resetting my preferences to default. At this point I'm just hoping that reinstalling Premiere will change something, but I'd still be using the same clips.

    Under most keyboard setups the defaults are:

    J = backwards

    K=stop

    L=forwards/Play

    Double-tapping the J or L key will rewind/fast forward.

    My problem is that 'K' only pauses the playback and does not reset the shuttle control, as it sounds like it's supposed to. Changing the key does nothing, and I haven't been able to find a way to revert playback to normal speed. Clicking 'J' or 'L' even with the shift key overshoots it every time
