How to Make "Fit" Program Frame Horizontal

New Here ,

I am a premiere novice. I need help.

As I edit, I want to create text and add images so that the way they look on the program panel screen is the exact way they it will appear when exported to the final product. I'm assuming then that I should be working with the frame in "fit" mode, but when it is, the screen is veritcle. I want the black part to be horizontal, and I want it to be this way when exported. Any help is greatly appreciated.

That "black part" is your sequence.

So ... it looks like your sequence is set for vertical rather than horizontal. Check your Sequence settings and change as needed. Click in the timeline panel so it's active, then menu Sequence/Sequence Settings. Change the sequence type at top to Custom then you can change things.
