Make Subclip from sequence is greyed out!?

Hi

I have a sequence with clips from an interview. One layer of video and 2 audio. I've marked the best bits and added comments to the markers and now I want to export these sections as subclips. I ctrl click the sequence in the project panel and "Open in Source Monitor". In the source monitor I mark an In/Out. Either by using the menu - Clip/Make Subclip - or by using the shortcut cmd U, nothing happens, the option is greyed out in the menu.

Things I've tried: I can make a subsequence, but not a subclip. Track targeting is on. The selections are linked on the sequence. I can make a subclip from a master clip. Making a new project with only one clip and one sequence still does not work.

I've watched a great tutorial on Lynda.com where the trainer does this so I know it's possible! Any ideas?

Hey man you probably already figured this out but I just read this and saw all these random no advice people. I had the greyed out make subclip button. The problem is that I was working off proxies. I just reconnected my hardrive which has all the full sized files, original media, and the make sublicp buotton popped right back on. Make sure premiere can access the original media. Hope it helps!

I understand this discussion started a while ago, however, I wanted to offer some advice and to note that there is an odd (unexpected perhaps) behavior going on when making subclips from a timeline, which is not noted in the Adobe Premiere Pro documentation.

In the documentation where the creation of subclips is provided it states that:

You can create subclips from a Timeline panel.
Do one of the following:
Ctrl-drag (Windows) or Command-drag (Mac OS) a clip instance from a sequence into an open bin in a Project panel. Type a name for the subclip, and click OK.
Right-click a clip instance in a sequence, and select Make Subclip. Type a name for the subclip, and click OK.

If you are following the directions and the Make Subclip is unavailable (greyed out), it is mostly likely due to the absence of in and out points on the timeline. Additionally, you will not be able to create subclips by pressing Ctrl or Cmd+U without in and out points. If you add an in point and an out point, you will then have the option when right-clicking to create a subclip.

However, if you want to create subclips from edits using a single track of video with an audio track in your timeline, you can do so by dragging all the clips (edits) in your timeline and dragging them to a bin. However, you have to change the view of the bin first.

If you attempt to drag the clips to a bin and the bin view is by list, it will not create subclips with the in and out points properly. Switch the bin view to the Icon (thumbnail) view before dragging the clips to the bin. Subclips will then be created with the in and out points at the location on the timeline for the edits of the clip.

I'd try closing the project and Premiere. Open Premiere WITHOUT opening a project, go too Preferences and delete everything in the cache/cache database files. Relaunch Premiere and see if it's working right.
